Mexican cuisine is famous for its special and delicious dishes, but one of them is the real star – the trails that make you throw every track. This dish from Mexico, which has already been discovered and loved by many Lithuanian residents, is great because it is extremely versatile, according to Lidl’s press release. This is probably what led to his worldwide fame and constant praise from diners.
A dish invented by the Aztecs
The history of the trails goes back centuries: it is not clear when exactly the trails appeared, but one theory claims that they were popular as early as the Aztec civilization. According to various sources, the Aztecs ate a variety of foods stuffed into cornmeal patties.
Later, takas became a traditional street food and were usually prepared with cheap ingredients such as vegetables or chicken. But over time, trails spread not only in Mexico, but all over the world and became a particularly popular dish.
Trails with meat, cheese, or maybe tofu?
The main ingredient of the trails is the tortilla: a thin, soft flatbread made of flour and corn dough. True, the world also likes the hard patty base, which is made from fried corn. The composition of the paths can be varied – this allows each eater to create his own combination. Common taco ingredients include ground meat, lettuce, beans, tomatoes, cheese, guacamole, and salsa.
Traditional Mexican tacos tend to be spicy, while those made in the United States are characterized by an abundance of meat and cheese. The tacos can also be suitable for vegan and vegetarian diets – then vegetables, beans, tofu, shrimp or other meat substitutes are added to the tacos. This allows lovers of different tastes to enjoy this pride of Mexico.
This week, Mexico Week comes to Lidl stores, where you can find products to suit all tastes: hot pepper stew, striped tuna fillet with jalapeños, cayenne pepper or hot peppers. Also in stores you will find guacamole, various cheeses, sausages and salami, taco and fajita sets perfect for parties and, of course, a variety of sauces and spices.
