During the European Heritage Days, visit National Visitor Center, ask for the quiz question sheet. If you answer all 10 questions about natural and cultural heritage correctly, you will receive a prize – a publication about protected areas.
The European Heritage Days are the largest heritage awareness event held in September across Europe (in the 48 countries that have signed the European Cultural Convention). The purpose of the event is to raise public awareness, believing that society can take responsibility for the preservation and transmission of cultural heritage to future generations only by getting to know it and better understanding its values and significance for both the country and the local community and individual people.
This year, European Heritage Days are taking place throughout Lithuania on September 8-17.
The idea to start organizing heritage days was born in France back in 1984, within a few years this event spread to many Western European countries and became so popular that since 1991, following the initiative of the Council of Europe and the support of the European Commission, European Heritage Days have been organized all over Europe. Lithuania joined the European Heritage Days program in 1994.
