April 25 (UPI) — A Russian missile struck a history museum in Kupyansk, Ukraine, in the Kharkiv region on Tuesday, officials said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky initially said one person was killed in the attack.
“Kupyansk, Museum of Local History, Russian Missile Strike. So far, it is known about the dead museum employee and ten injured. There are still people under the ruins,” Zelensky said. tweeted Tuesday.
“The terrorist country is doing everything to completely destroy Ukraine. We have no right to forget about it for a second. We must bring Russia to justice both on the battlefield and with fair court rulings,” Zelenskiy continued.
As rescue efforts continued, the death toll rose.
“Search and rescue workers found the body of a second woman while cleaning up the ruins of a museum building in Kupianske, which was hit by a Russian S-300 missile this morning,” said Oleh Syniehubov, head of Kharkiv’s military administration. said in a telegram on Tuesday.
According to Siniehubov, there are no military objects on the territory of the museum.
