However, Aušrinė Kisieliūtė, an English teacher who teaches primary school children, says that it is recommended for the child to participate in the shopping, because this is the only way he will choose an item that he really likes. The head of commercial operations, Olga Suchocheva, says that shopping centers are already filled with the assortment for the new school year, and among the products popular among schoolchildren are tools with images of characters from popular cartoon series or movies.

However, according to English teacher Aušrinė Kisieliūtė, it is important to shop rationally and with good calculations, because parents tend to buy more of everything for their children than they really need.
“I always advise parents of children to follow the rule of smart shopping. From my work at the school, I notice that parents often provide their children with various tools, which end up being unused. For example, various notebooks with special bands for elementary school students are no longer suitable for older classes, so parents simply have to throw them away. Therefore, I always recommend to buy less tools at the beginning, and if necessary, to replenish them during the school year,” says the teacher.
It is recommended to go shopping with a child
Nowadays, school supplies are characterized by an abundance of different and colorful designs. Various characters from children’s favorite cartoons or series, heroes of computer games are often printed on backpacks, stationery or pencils. Teacher Aušrinė Kisieliūtė says that when buying things for the school, it is recommended to include children in the selection process, as this can lead not only to their more sustainable use, but also to positive emotions.
“I would recommend parents that their children be active participants in shopping for school. I would suggest that they let them choose the colors or designs of the tools, as this is the only way to ensure that the child will enjoy the item even more. At school, I sometimes notice that children bring tools that they don’t really like. If this happens, they may get upset or not use the item they brought. It is necessary to remember that the first year of school is very emotional and sensitive for children, so you will avoid additional tears if you take the children’s interests into account when shopping”, emphasizes A. Kisieliūtė.
When preparing for school, it is important for the future student to choose high-quality, sustainable tools that will not break during the first use. According to the English teacher, each tool has separate quality control criteria.
“It is important to properly check every stationery when preparing for school. You can check the quality of plastic tools by bending them, and for pens by trying them out in the store. I would suggest that parents also pay attention to the quality of notebooks before buying. Not all of them are made of the same quality paper, so it is very important that their pages do not shine through and do not fade easily. Otherwise, when writing with a pen, the child may pierce the page or blur the other side of it. Also, great attention should be paid to art supplies. It is very important to choose good quality glue for your child. If the work does not stick, it can cause inconvenience to the child in the educational process”, – says English teacher Aušrinė Kisieliūtė about the quality of office supplies.
