The sixteenth cultural festival “Purple Evening” that started on Thursday in Anykščiai surprised fans with unexpected performances this year. On the first night, Šarūnas Mačiulis got the festival visitors off their seats with “Polarized Glasses”, and Marijonas Mikutavičius, who appeared on stage, turned the hot August evening into a wet T-shirt show.
Live concerts, theater performances, meetings with creators, film screenings, traditional midnight poetry readings – Anykščiai breathed heat and culture this weekend. On the first day of the festival, on Thursday, Kazimieras Jakutis and the group gave Anykščias a concert of original songs. In the evening, a film about the poet Marcelijus Martinaitis “Life among the flowers” by the well-known Lithuanian film documentarian Algirdas Tarvydas was shown.
On Friday, the festival began with the opening of the exhibition “Letters from the Past” by the artist and musician Artūrs Šlipavičiaus – Šlipas at the Anykščiai Arts Incubator. L. and S. Didiuliu public library invited to a meeting with essayist and translator Kornelius Platelis.
The evening of the groups started with the group “Lights and Darks”. For the first time, the legendary group “Polarized glasses” with Šarūns Mačiulis participated in the “Purple evening”, the humorous current affairs show was organized by the group “Šventinis bankuchenas”, which collects thousands of views on the Internet, and at the end of the evening, Marijonas Mikutavičius, who came to the Anykščiai Dainuva Valley with the group, captured all the audience’s sympathies.
The literary-musical program “Not far away from Dzūkija to Žemaitija” was shown in the traditional midnight poetry readings in Anykščiai chapel, which always attract a lot of spectators. Poems and songs were prepared in Dzuk and Sami language by the Dzuk poet Juozas Žitkauskas and Povilas Girdenis, a bard with Sami roots.
On the Saturday of the festival, a meeting with famous TV faces Saulius Pilinkus and Edita Mildžyte awaits at the Anykščiai cultural center. The new poetic musical program will be presented by Rimvydas Stankevičius, the laureate of this year’s National Culture and Art Prize, together with songwriter and performer Domantas Razauskas.
There will also be no shortage of famous names at the bard evening: Rokas Kašėta, Vladas Bagdon and composer Audrius Balsys, Marius Jampolskis, who will be accompanied by Deividas Zvonkus, father and son duo – Aidas and Ignas Giniočiai, Andrius Kaniava, “Actor’s Trio”.
