May 25 (UPI) — Two police officers and another person were killed Thursday in a shooting and knife attack in Nagano, Japan.
Two officers were fatally shot while responding to a 911 call about a woman who had been stabbed at around 4:25 p.m. local time.
The suspect, who police said was armed with a shotgun and a large knife, fled and hid in a nearby building.
A witness said he saw a woman running away from a man in camouflage clothing, she was stabbed with a large knife when she fell. The gunman reportedly returned with a firearm and fired twice.
Another man was injured, but police were unable to save him because he was too close to the attacker.
Over the loudspeaker, people were urged to stay indoors as police and ambulances responded to the area.
